The KIDS system maintains student confidentiality while allowing for the submission of timely, accurate data in multiple formats. The KIDS system assigns a unique, randomly-generated state identification number for every student attending accredited public or private schools in Kansas. This ID number follows the student throughout his/her preK-12 education in Kansas schools. Through the use of the state identification number, KIDS reduces the time needed for data collection and allows quicker responses to data requests. Functionality The KIDS system allows a school or district to send data stored in the local student information system to the State by using secure batch file submissions. No direct data entry into the KIDS system is required. The KIDS system provides a number of reports to allow schools to review and verify the data submitted. . The EOYA Collection gathers attendance, membership, truancy, and program participation data for all students who were in membership at the Accountability School at any point during the school year. KCAN 2024: The KCAN Collection is open 08/21/23 – 09/03/24 for the 2024 school year. The KCAN data collection focuses on collecting the course outcomes. KCAN records are only required for the following population: All courses for grades 9-12 and nongraded Career Technical Education (CTE) students’ Pathway course outcomes for high school students CTE Certifications earned by students Dual Credit course outcomes for high school students Migrant students Migrant students with Received Services (summer school). Can only be submitted from June 1 – September 3, 2024. The KIDS TEST Collection focuses on gathering student data for State assessments. The current TEST record by Attendance School and test subject will be used to provide information to KITE for State Assessments test tickets. The assessment results of all students submitted to KIDS on TEST records will be counted by KSDE for accountability purposes. TEST records are not used for Interim or DLM assessments. TASC Collection The TASC data collection is open from 9/5/2023—5/24/2024. TASC records are collected to provide an educator, course, and student link. Uses of this data may include: Provide educators a link to current students’ data in KITE accounts for ELA and Math interim assessments. Provide educators mini-test creation and assessment options before and after interim assessment periods for ELA and Math. Provide educators a link to current 2nd grade students’ data in KITE for the optional Reading Assessment. KIDS Support KSDE offers a wide variety of help resources to support school and district users submitting data via KIDS. The KIDS Help Desk, where users may seek help working directly with the KIDS software, is staffed during normal business hours. The telephone number is 785-296-7935. The KIDS email account ( kids@ksde.org ) allows school and district personnel to submit questions and receive a personal response. Conference calls with the KIDS Team members allow school and district personnel to speak directly with the KIDS support team. The KIDS Project website ( kidsweb.ksde.org ) includes numerous help resources for KIDS users including documentation and collection schedules. Free training for KIDS is offered in a wide variety of formats including: hands-on sessions, online demonstrations, and an advanced professional development certification program known as the Data Quality Certification (DQC) Program. KSDE no longer offers a certification program for student information system vendors to ensure compatibility between the local student information system and the KIDS system. We do strongly recommend all KIDS users submit all record types in advance of submission windows in Validation mode to ensure records process properly before deadlines.
