The KIDS system maintains student confidentiality while allowing for the submission of timely, accurate data in multiple formats. The KIDS system assigns a unique, randomly-generated state identification number for every student attending accredited public or private schools in Kansas. This ID number follows the student throughout his/her preK-12 education in Kansas schools. Through the use of the state identification number, KIDS reduces the time needed for data collection and allows quicker responses to data requests. Functionality The KIDS system allows a school or district to send data stored in the local student information system to the State by using secure batch file submissions. No direct data entry into the KIDS system is required. The KIDS system provides a number of reports to allow schools to review and verify the data submitted. . This is the data that is used to populate sections of the Principal's Building Report (PBR) and the Superintendent's Organizational Report (SO66) which are in turn used for state funding (based on the September 20th Rule) and for some federal funding calculations. The KCAN data collection focuses on collecting the course outcomes. KCAN will continue to be open for the 2019-2020 school year through September 8, 2020. KCAN records are only required for the following population: Migrant students Career Technical Education (CTE) students Virtual Education Students 19 and Over Course outcomes for students receiving dual credit on high school courses CTE Certifications earned by students (formerly collected in the K-PAC application). The KIDS TEST Collection focuses on gathering student data for State assessments. The current TEST record by Attendance School and test subject will be used to provide information to CETE for State Assessments test tickets. The assessment results of all students submitted to KIDS on TEST records will be counted by KSDE for accountability purposes. TEST records are not used for Interim or DLM assessments. The SMSC collection focuses on small districts eligible for Rural Education Achievement Program (REAP) funding. This document can be found under the 2020-2021 KIDS Submission Details Documents sub container on the Documents tab of this website. 2020-2021 MILT Collection This collection gathers student enrollment data for districts whose student population significantly increases after the September 21 (ENRL) funding count due to military movement. The window of time for submitting MILT records to KIDS is 02/22/21–03/15/21. The student data that is submitted for MILT should be current as of 02/22/21. 2020-2021 EOYA Collection The 2020-2021 EOYA Collection is open 05/10/21 - 06/25/21. The EOYA Collection gathers attendance, membership, truancy, and program participation data for all students who were in membership at the Accountability School at any point during the school year. KIDS Support KSDE offers a wide variety of help resources to support school and district users submitting data via KIDS. The KIDS Help Desk, where users may seek help working directly with the KIDS software, is staffed during normal business hours. The telephone number is 785-296-7935. The KIDS email account ( kids@ksde.org ) allows school and district personnel to submit questions and receive a personal response.
